Head Band Director

Shane Johnson has been at Hughes Middle School since 2007. His duties include directing the Honors Band and Jazz Band as well as assisting with the Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony. Mr. Johnson also teaches the beginning Trombone, Euphonium, and Tuba classes.

Mr. Johnson received his Bachelor of Music Education (2001) and Master’s degree in Trombone Performance (2004) from Texas Christian University. Prior to taking a job as a band director in Burleson, he taught private low brass lessons in Azle, Birdville, Burleson, Crowley, Fort Worth, and Joshua ISDs. 

Ensembles under Mr. Johnson have consistently won superior division ratings at UIL Concert and Sightreading Contests and other music festivals. In addition to teaching (and fishing), Mr. Johnson is the principal trombonist for the Brazos Chamber Orchestra, lead trombonist of the M.O.B (Ministers of Brass) and an active free-lance musician operating throughout the DFW metroplex.


Assistant Band Director


Megan Seymore is currently in her third year as a part of Hughes Middle School Band staff. Her duties include directing the Symphonic Band and Concert Bands and assisting with the Honors Band. Mrs. Seymore also teaches the beginning Flute, Oboe, and Bassoon classes.


Mrs. Seymore received her Bachelor of Music Education and Master's degree in Flute Performance from West Texas A&M University. Prior to taking a job as a band director, she taught private flute lessons in and around Amarillo, TX. Mrs. Seymore is also a member of the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra. 


Percussion Director - BHS and HMS

Mr. Carter teaches the beginning percussion class and works with all percussion students in 6th-12th grade.
